Forest'InnLab
February 11 2022Forest’InnLab was created in 2020 as part of an agreement between its three parent schools (AgroParisTech, INRAE, and the University of Lorraine). Its aim is to facilitate co-innovation and open science around current forestry issues and related topics (global and environmental change, green transition, the dialog around forests and society, the use and preservation of ecosystem services).
Introduction
Forest’InnLab encourages and fosters conditions for creating interactions and the exchange of knowledge between scientific stakeholders (researchers, professors, students), scientific outreach and participatory science organizations, forestry professionals (public and private), NGOs, and civil society.
The aim of Forest’InnLab is to provide systemic and multidisciplinary approaches bridging life sciences, social sciences, engineering, and innovation applied to forestry issues by facilitating an ecosystem of collective intelligence. Through these activities, an important role is also given to students and to the relationship between research and education, including through collective projects involving second-year master’s and engineering students from AgrosParisTech and the University of Lorraine.
Forest’InnLab’s Work
-
Hosting and supporting innovative projects, such as startup incubators (Forestys, Wood’Up), by opening up our network of partners;
-
Encouraging sharing and collaboration between project developers, forestry professionals, students, and faculty members to facilitate innovation and changes in practices;
-
Participating in a range of expert assessments and events and contributing to local development projects: Des Hommes et des Arbres (DHDA), winner of the Appel Territoires d’Innovation at the Investments for the Future 3 program in November 2019; Assises de la Forêt in November 2021; supporting the PETR (Pôle d’Équilibre Territorial et Rural) in the Déodatie region regarding the vulnerability of the forestry sector as part of LIFE ARTISAN;
-
Facilitating “agile” co-innovation workshops;
-
Analyzing mechanisms for changing the practices of those involved in the industry, along with their reception, and integrating knowledge created through research in ecology, silviculture, and wood science;
-
This last goal comes with an outward-looking strategy toward other fields, through 1) Ph.D. theses jointly directed with other laboratories in economy, geography, management, and industrial systems engineering; and 2) coordinating or contributing to projects that integrate applied research and action research (S’EnTET, Askafor, ExtraForEst);
-
Establishing a laboratory devoted to representations of forests;
-
Exploring the relationship between forests and society.
Prerequisites and Acceptance Profile
There are no prerequisites apart from having some relationship to forestry and trees and sharing values relating to sustainably managed ecosystems and green transition.
