AgroParisTech: A Longstanding Participant at the International Agricultural Show
As the International Agricultural Show in Paris celebrates its 60th year of existence, AgroParisTech is proud to be a longtime participant in this festive event that shines a spotlight on all French farmers have to offer. It all began in 1974 when Jean Champagne, a young first-year student at AgroParisTech, turned his interest in the Show into a lasting collaboration between AgroParisTech and the International Agricultural Show. This year, 600 students will be present among the Show’s different exhibitors. This experience is an integral part of AgroParisTech’s engineering program. At the Agricultural Show, students meet with producers, vendors, companies from the fields of agriculture, processing, and distribution, and a host of non-profits involved in the world of agriculture. Being able to interact with this wide variety of contacts helps them gain a firmer understanding of the complex systems at work in the world of agriculture. A team of students has also been formed to take part in the competition for the International Trophy of Agricultural Education.
Bringing Together People from Different Walks of Life
Created to serve as a forum for scientific outreach and the transmission of knowledge, AgroParisTech’s stand is designed to be a place for rich, open exchanges between the AgroParisTech community (administrative and technical staff, teachers, researchers, students, etc.) and the general public, the world of agriculture and its professionals, and policymakers.
This year, the booth will feature special activities dedicated to forestry issues in celebration of the two-hundredth anniversary of the creation of the Nancy Forestry School, which would later go on to become what is now known as AgroParisTech. Throughout the week, entertaining activities will offer visitors the opportunity to learn more about the ties between forests and carbon fixation, to discover the forestry modeling tools that exist, and to find out what lies beneath the word “dendrochronology.”
An Environmentally Friendly Booth Design in Sync With AgroParisTech’s Values
Designed and built by Eko Events, an ISO20121-certified social purpose corporation, AgroParisTech’s booth was designed from the ground up to be environmentally responsible. Careful attention was paid not only to the materials used (made from renewable or recyclable resources, 100% recyclable and certified under French and European standards), but also to the reuse of the booth’s components once the event is over (by AgroParisTech or a company specialized in reuse).
Lastly, 1% of the total budget for the event—0.5% of which is directly covered by AgroParisTech—is earmarked for a charitable organization.
The “Village” of Public Grandes Écoles
As in 2023, AgroParisTech joined eight other grandes écoles in the field of life sciences—Bordeaux Sciences Agro, Engees, Ensaia, Ensat AgroToulouse, Ensfea, Oniris VetAgroBio, and VetAgro Sup (booth D039) and Institut Agro (booth F048)—to form a Village of Public Grandes Écoles for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment.
From February 24 to March 3, these nine institutions offered visitors a rich, exciting agenda, including entertaining workshops, conferences, and round-table discussions, in addition to a showcase for innovative entrepreneurial projects launched by agricultural engineering students or young startups made possible by these institutions.
