28 mai 2024Social Security registration - CPAM (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie)
This free and mandatory online procedure allows you to obtain a Social Security number.
The Social Security number is essential for partial reimbursement of medical expenses and for many other purposes (housing benefit, health insurance, student jobs, etc.). It is also required to sign the work placement agreement that will validate your year of training.
Creating an Ameli account
- Online account creation request
- Receive the code that will allow you to activate the creation of your account. This code will be sent by post to the address you provided on the Social Security application.
You will then be able to request your «carte vitale», update your contact details (postal address, bank details), consult reimbursements, download your certificate of entitlement, etc. It is very important to keep your postal address and bank details up to date.
Complementary health insurance (mutual insurance)
Optional insurance that allows you to obtain additional reimbursements (total or partial) in addition to those provided by the Social Security.
Check if you qualify for the Complémentaire Santé Solidaire (free or less than €1 per day).
If not, check the rates of other insurance companies using the Health Insurance Comparator or HEYME or SMERRA or LMDE.
Remote transmission. If you have a mutual insurance, check that it has activated teletransmission with your CPAM to facilitate the reimbursement of your healthcare expenses.
Update your «carte vitale». If you have a mutual insurance, ask a pharmacy to update your carte vitale to facilitate the reimbursements.
Medical consultations
Find all the contact details in the directory of healthcare professionals.
LOOK AT THE FEES! For the best reimbursement, choose for professionals covered by sector 1 agreements (no additional fees).
Documents to be presented at each consultation: «carte vitale» (issued by the Social Security / CPAM), certificate of mutual insurance.
Free health check
The «Centres d’Examen de Santé» (CES) offer a comprehensive overview of your health and rights, personalised advice and screening services. If necessary, the CES will refer you to a specialist for treatment and/or prescriptions.
The consultation takes about 2.5 hours.
